Associate Vice President for Research Computing

Virginia Tech seeks an experienced, mission-driven, strategic leader to be the next Associate Vice President for Research Computing who will partner with researchers to increase Virginia Tech’s competitive advantage for grants and discover new opportunities for research computing in high-impact areas such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, and visualization. The Associate Vice President

  • Provides vision, strategy, and leadership for advanced research computing at Virginia Tech; 
  • Leads and coordinates the deployment and effective operation of high performance computing, large scale and archival research data storage, high data rate networking, visualization, research software and applications, and support services; 
  • Broadens the impact of research computing at Virginia Tech by increasing the diversity of users; 
  • Actively engages with the research community both within and external to the university; and, 
  • Facilitates a sustainable financial model for research computing at Virginia Tech.

The Associate Vice President reports to the university’s Vice President for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer and leads the Advanced Research Computing (ARC) unit within the Division of IT.

This position is located out of the Blacksburg campus and is eligible for a hybrid working arrangement.
